Color in the Appalachian Foothills

An Artist’s
Forest Rainbow

Cardinal red. Turquoise wood cups. Indigo mushroom gills. The forest’s colors reach far beyond green.

Eight color chapters connect my photographs with the organisms and details behind them.

About this journal

Rooted in
southeastern Kentucky.

I’m an artist, photographer, and writer. I love sharing what I find in nature.

Most of my observations come from Daniel Boone National Forest and nearby areas of southeastern Kentucky, on and around the Cumberland Plateau. This is part of the wider region known as the Kentucky Wildlands.

I photograph a favorite species again when I find it in a different place. Each observation is a separate encounter, with its own setting and details.
